The business relationship, i.e. sponsorship understanding between Monomoy Tackle and My Fishing Cape Cod has ended, effective immediately.
If you are a current or former member of the 'MFCC' site you may know that Monomoy Tackle began five years ago by launching products on the MFCC forum. Since that initial launch, the relationship grew to become a formal sponsorship.
Other than this announcement, it's fair to ask 'Why the blog? Why the explanation?' The answer is that rumors and hearsay are always more interesting that the reality and the truth always rest in the middle. Obviously this is one person's side of it.
Without getting into exact specifics, the sponsorship included a monthly fee. It also included member benefits which were delivered by Monomoy Tackle in the form of a 10% discount to members, product giveaways through the MFCC site, and provisions to give MFCC wholesale pricing on kits and products which would be offered to members as prizes at events or as incentives to become members.
Against the sponsorship offer from Monomoy Tackle, there were deliverables from MFCC which included in part, the following:
Display of the brand logo on the show marquee and on emails, posts or other areas where brand sponsors would commonly appear.
Use of product by Ryan Collins
Instagram or other social media or brand media exposure
Exposure on the MFCC tv show
Possible participation on the MFCC podcast
a free membership to the site in exchange for my participation in providing detailed reports
A table at the Season Kick-off where Monomoy Tackle would participate as a vendor.
Participation in the MFCC website 'store' where Monomoy Tackle products would be displayed and sold through the MFCC site.
In 2024 and 2025 some of the deliverables above were discontinued by MFCC. If you're a member or former member, you can easily pick out the three that are gone, because the services are gone for you members as well. ***If you want answers as to the why on those, you need to consult two people and those two people are Ryan Collins of My Fishing Cape Cod and Phil Howarth of the Goose Hummock.***
In early 2026, I wrote to Ryan Collins and asked him for a restructuring of the sponsorship, in particular the financial monthly fee. I asked him if that portion could be done as an 'a la carte' menu. I told him the member benefits part and the wholesale discount to MFCC on tackle, kits, prizes, and incentives would go unchanged. In other terms, I was not seeing the return on investment on a monthly fee, so I proposed a payment per occurrence, which frankly is a very common form of sponsorship purchase being used by other outlets and MFCC itself.
Ryan wrote to me and noted that he understood and the monthly financial fee was suspended. I fully expected that at some point, Ryan would get back to me on some 'a la carte' items, i.e. a fee to appear on the podcast or a fee to post a video highlighting Monomoy Tackle black sea bass products.
That never came and this morning, I saw and learned that Monomoy Tackle has been left off the list of sponsors visible on a group email issued Saturday night.
Did I get a phone call or the courtesy of a head's up? No I didn't. I found out when others found out. I'll leave it there.
Going forward, all the member benefits part of the sponsorship are ended as well. I am not staying on long term as a member or contributor. If you are a member who enjoyed the 10% discount, get in touch with me.
I like Ryan and Lauren Collins. I am grateful for their support of my business. I consider them friends and will gladly assist them on a personal level in the future. I will not speak ill of My Fishing Cape Cod. I will however simply voice that the priorities and thus the deliverable are not the same as they were five years ago. I will also say that there is an element of control exhibited by outside forces that are simply 'bad for business.'
All of this is to say, thanks and see you down the road.
